Today is the first full day of spring. This signifies new beginnings. I know many people make New Year’s Resolutions or preferably set new goals for the new year. If you are like most people, you are no longer sticking to you resolutions/goals. Now is the perfect time to start anew! Identify what you wish to accomplish over the next 3 months (your outcome goal) and then figure out how you are going to do it (your action plan). Your action plan needs to be S.M.A.R.T.
Specific – Identify exactly what you are going to do and how you are going to do it.
Measurable – Make sure you have a way of measuring what you are going to do.
Achievable – Goals should push you, but at the same time not be too difficult that you can’t achieve them.
Recorded – You need to write your goal down somewhere that you will see it regularly.
Time-stamped – Set a time frame for you to work on this process; over the next 3 months.
Here is an example:
Outcome Goal – Increase my happiness!
S.M.A.R.T. Goal – Every day over the next 3 months I am going to write down at least 3 things I am grateful for in my gratitude journal.
SPECIFIC (every day, 3 entries in gratitude journal)
MEASURABLE (I can measure every day and 3 entries)
ACHIEVABLE (This is something that is not overly time consuming)
RECORDED (It is only recorded if you write this goal down)
TIME-STAMPED (over the next 3 months)
